Frankfort North
Located between Frankfort Road and Bancroft Street, this zone serves as the critical buffer between the Irwin Prairie State Nature Preserve and low-density residential areas. The strategy focuses on managing the hydrology of the wet sedge meadows and preventing impervious surface runoff from damaging this globally rare ecosystem.

Strategic Initiatives

Hydrological Protection
The core of this zone is the Irwin Prairie, a wet prairie system dependent on a high water table. We work strictly with the Lucas County Engineer to ensure that ditch maintenance and new residential development do not alter the groundwater levels required to sustain this rare habitat.

Low-Impact Connectivity
We are exploring “soft-path” trail connections that allow residents to access the nature preserve without introducing heavy infrastructure. The goal is to maintain the quiet, contemplative nature of the prairie while providing safe pedestrian access from the north.
