Northwest Agricultural Zone

This zone represents the rural heritage of Spencer Township. Characterized by prime hydric soils and active farming operations, the strategy here is strictly preservation-focused. We aim to prevent urban sprawl and support our local producers by maintaining large-lot zoning and minimizing non-agricultural development.

Strategic Initiatives

Agricultural Security Areas (ASAs)

We are actively facilitating the creation of Agricultural Security Areas (ASAs). This legal designation requires a minimum of 500 contiguous acres and protects participants from nuisance lawsuits and development pressure, ensuring the long-term viability of the township’s agricultural output. It provides a stable operating environment for multi-generational farms.

Best Management Practices (BMPs)

We collaborate with local farmers to deploy Best Management Practices that protect our water table. Given the region’s shallow wells and hydric soils, sustainable farming is critical to maintaining the township’s water quality.
