Frankfort South
This zone is the active heart of the township’s eco-tourism strategy. Housing both Wiregrass Lake Metropark and the Kitty Todd Nature Preserve, it attracts visitors from across the region. The focus here is on connectivity—linking these separate parks into a cohesive recreational experience.

Strategic Initiatives

The Wiregrass-Westwinds Connector
A major gap exists in the regional trail network. We are prioritizing the development of a multi-modal trail connecting Wiregrass Lake Metropark to Westwinds Metropark (via the Wabash-Cannonball Trail). This project will create a continuous recreational loop that drives eco-tourism and connects the industrial park workforce to green space.

Invasive Species Management
We collaborate with The Nature Conservancy to manage the unique flora of the Oak Openings. This includes active land management practices, such as prescribed burns and woody species removal, to restore the native Oak Savanna habitat that defines the region’s character.
